Never one to stand back from making controversial statements, DJ Gareth Cliff has been in the headlines this week for a detailed and passionate post on his website in which he takes on the ruling ANC government for their failure to deliver.

In the post titled “Dear government”, Cliff has urged government, “collectively”, to take responsibility for key areas where he says they are disappointing the nation and failing to deliver on their mandate:
1. “You have to stop corruption”
2. “Stop complaining about the media”
3. “Education is a disaster”
4. “Give up on BEE. It isn’t working”
5. “Stop squabbling over power”
6. “Stop renaming things”
7. “Don’t think you will be in power for ever”

According to The Times newspaper, Presidential spokesman Zizi Kodwa has arranged a meeting with Cliff so that the two can discuss the issues and Kodwa, “Can understand better the issues he is raising”. Cliff has said on air he looks forward to the meeting and can’t wait to discuss the issues that are troubling him. He wasn’t against the government, but felt they needed to do much better in certain areas. Would love to be a fly on the wall in this meeting.

Gareth’s a brave man to speak out on what he believes. Very few people back up their bravado by putting pen to paper.
